Fill up the blood stocks with Rotary Club

Help save a life by donating blood this weekend at the SANBS at the Colony Centre in Hillcrest.

NOVEMBER is proving to be a testing month, not just for learners and tertiary students writing their end-of-year examinations, but also for the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), which is experiencing a critical shortage of blood.

You can help by taking part in the Rotary Club of Hillcrest’s blood drive at the SANBS at the Colony Centre in Hillcrest on Saturday, 18 November from 9am to 3pm.

Schools and universities hold regular blood drives and with exams in full swing, the blood bank said it was worried as it could not get to the youngsters for some of their crucial blood supplies.

KwaZulu-Natal had just 1.8 days of stock available on Wednesday, 8 November, equating to fewer than 200 units – leading to the SANBS issuing an appeal for donors in the province. A healthy blood stock in KwaZulu-Natal is 500 units of O blood per day.

All donors will receive a free boerewors roll.

The rolls are also on sale for R20 for non-donors and the funds raised will be used for the Rotary Club’s ongoing outreach projects.

l The SA National Blood Service will be at the Highway Mail office, 115 Escom Road, New Germany on Tuesday, 5 December between 9am and 12pm.
