Metro’s Theuns is ready to keep the area safe

The 61-year-old resident is the Queensburgh and Pinetown Metro police divisional commander.

NEW Queensburgh and Pinetown Metro police divisional commander, Theuns van Heerden, has 43 years of service under his belt and is ready to give of his best to the people.

The 61-year-old Queensburgh resident, husband and father’s job entails being commander of law enforcement operations and administrative duties.

Van Heerden believes in an open door policy and involves his staff in decision-making.

“Their opinions matter as they are in the field more than I am so they are more hands-on,” he said.

He has lived in Queensburgh from 1988 and has a personal interest to serve and protect his community.

“My family uses these roads so I have to protect them,” he said.

“Queensburgh has grown which means there are more motorists. The motorists that don’t comply with the rules of the road are the biggest problem and this is not just the taxis, private cars also contribute to the problem,” Van Heerden explained.

According to the commander their road blocks always include education and they plan to increase the number of roadblocks held in the area.

“I have identified many problems in Queensburgh including the use of cellphones while driving. Parents should also stop driving with children on their laps.

“This is a warning to the people of Queensburgh to not drink and drive and break any road rules. We will show no mercy,” he warned.

Van Heerden said his job is to serve and protect the people and wants to maintain an open and friendly relationship with residents.

‘Residents are free to drop off complaints and suggestions for me at the charge office and I will engage with them. I believe in finding alternative solutions to problems and working together with the community to make Queensburgh roads safer,” he said.
