Pay tribute to fallen heroes at Wayside Cross Ceremony
The Wayside Cross ceremony will take place on Sunday, 5 November.
THE Highway community and surrounding areas are invited to the Wayside Cross Yearly Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, 5 November.
The ceremony, which begins at 2pm, is an annual event held at the Pinetown Library Park to pay tribute to members of all uniformed and essential services of Pinetown and surrounding boroughs of eThekwini, who have given their lives in protection and service for the community and country.

The Wayside Cross was erected in 1928 by the community in remembrance.
This year, in recognition of their ongoing dedication and charitable sacrifice to help all those in need through Mutual Help, True Comradeship and Sound Memory the past 90 years, the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH) of the Better ‘Ole Shellhole will stand proudly to attention as Guard of Honour and Sentries for the duration of this year’s Wayside Cross Remembrance Ceremony.

Participation is anticipated from the mayoral office of eThekwini and councillors, arms of service of the SANDF, as well as the UMR SANDF local contingent, the South African Police Service, Road Traffic Inspectorate, the Fire Department, Provincial Ambulance Service (EMRS), St Johns Ambulance Service, and Veterans’ Associations such as the MOTH, MOTHWA, MMA and SA Legion.
A fine turnout of local school representatives as well as cubs and scouts, and charity organisations is also expected.
