Go indigenous at plant sale

Find the perfect plants for your garden to help attract birds, butterflies and the bees.

MAKE your way to the Drummond Conservancy’s annual indigenous plant sale on Saturday, 28 October from 9am to 2pm.

The Drummond Conservancy is a registered conservancy which has been in operation for more than 20 years and its purpose is to encourage residents to be pro-active in caring for the environment as well as the eradication of alien invasive plants (IAP’s).

It then replaces these plants with appropriate, indigenous flora.

“By promoting the increase in the variety and number of indigenous plants, the conservancy is creating corridors of green open spaces along river areas, between properties and fences,” said Drummond Conservancy committee member, Cherie Barrett.

The conservancy acts as an environmental watchdog and reports problems to the relative authorities, after consulting with those involved.

The organisation also hosts annual educational events such as its frog and bat evenings and the walk on the wild side initiative.

There will be a vast range of beautiful indigenous plants and trees on sale and a few local experts will be available to offer advice on plant selection and the eradication of IAP’s.

A produce table will provide a variety of delicious organic and locally made goodies from goat’s cheese to chicken flatties, gluten free wraps, mayonnaise and pesto, jams and pickles, free range eggs, crunchies, rusks and more. Refreshments will also be on sale.

“Visit the Drummond Conservancy’s sale for a morning in the fresh country air and enjoy gentle, live music and a cup of coffee or tea with home-made treats,” said Cherie.

No dogs are allowed. Contact Felicity von Oettingen on 083 777 9430 for directions to the venue.
