Seven injured in N3 freak accident

Two people were ejected from the rear of the truck and then pinned under the back wheels.

SEVEN people were injured, one critically so, when the truck they were in veered off the roadway and went down a bank on the N3 Durban bound just after Pavilion off-ramp on Thursday evening.

Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care said paramedics arrived on the scene just after 7.20pm and found a single truck had left the N3 and crashed into a small river.

“A total of seven people were injured with two people being ejected from the rear of the truck and then pinned under the back wheels. One man was in a critical condition and Rescue Care’s advanced life support paramedic placed the man on a manual ventilator on the scene while Durban Fire Department worked to free the man,” said Jamieson.

He added that both men were finally freed from under the vehicle after close to 45 minutes. All seven injured were then transported to various Durban hospitals.

It it uncertain what caused the driver of the single truck to lose control and crash over the barrier, however SAPS were on the scene and will investigate.
