THE SAPS, CPFs and neighbourhood watches were concerned at the increase in crime according to the crime stats for the Pinetown Southern suburbs area for September released by the Pinetown South Sector 3 CPF.
Patroller, Tony Wardle, said in the Glen Park area, house break-ins are on the rise, with the suspects often targeting out buildings and garages.
He said the Hatton Estates area has the issue of petty theft, the target being automated gate motor batteries and driveway lights being stolen.

“However, thanks to the combined efforts of all of the neighbourhood watches across Pinetown and the police, the battery theft has seen a decline.
Pinelands and Farningham Ridge have experienced home invasions, usually on Friday nights into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The target is electronic items, such as TVs and cellular phones,” said Wardle.

The Mariannhill, Ashley and Caversham Glen, Sector 3 CPF (M.A.C.) is currently experiencing petty theft of especially copper and brass theft, gate battery theft as well as outside garden lights.
“The neighbourhood watch patrollers should also be commended for their efforts this month in attending to an elderly person in their hour of need, as well as attending to a young accident victim until he could be safely transported to hospital.”
He said during the month of September, Propshaft and Gearbox Ace heeded the call by Southern Suburbs CPF for support and made a contribution valued at more than R1000 towards much needed equipment for the Southern Suburb watches.

“Their contribution is much appreciated and they challenge other businesses in the Pinetown area to match or beat their contribution. “The Pinetown South Sector 3 CPF and M.A.C. CPF would again like to make the public aware of the dangers of stopping at traffic lights with their windows open, and to be aware of suspicious people and vehicles in their residential areas.
“The CPF also urge people to know the emergency number of their local neighbourhood watch in addition to the 10111 Crime Stop number,” added Wardle.
