Highway’s Asia is a star in the making

She may only be 10 years old, but is already making a name for herself on an international level for her talents on stage.

HIGHWAY’s Asia Marx is a star in the making.

The determined youngster recently competed in Talent America and raked in a slew of medals and trophies.

She is a singer, actress, photographic model and ballet dancer, but one of her greatest attributes is her confidence and ease with which she is able to perform on stage and in front of the camera.

At age four, Asia was cast for a number of local catalogue photoshoots and films for an international surf brand.

She enjoys participating annually in the speech and drama festival, which takes place in schools nationwide.

Singing is her passion and in 2016 she began singing lessons with a coach to improve her vocal abilities.

This requires dedication and commitment.

Asia, who is a Grade 4 learner at Hillcrest Christian Academy, is no stranger to performing live in front of crowds and has done so with backing tracks and also with a full band behind her.

She has been into a studio environment where she recorded her version of the song by Alicia Keys, Girl on Fire.

In January 2017, Asia entered the regional acting and vocal rounds of Talent Africa in Durban and achieved an overall score above 80 per cent.

She then took part in the national round of Talent Africa at the Roodepoort Theatre in April.

She entered the vocal, acting and print divisions (photographic) and took seven gold medals, as well as an award for best junior entertainer for acting.

As she did so well in the national round, she qualified to go to New York as part of the South African Performing Arts team participating in Talent America and with the help of sponsors and a fund-raising event, she was afforded the opportunity to perform before 15 judges and casting agents.

Her hard work and dedication to her craft paid off and she did exceptionally well, walking away with eight trophies and three medals, including four first place trophies for acting, singing and photographic divisions, a divisional winner award, a pinnacle award for highest score in her age category for two or more divisions and the overall winner award in her age category.

She also received five call-backs from some of the judges.

Asia is a kind, energetic, vivacious, active and free-spirited 10-year-old who enjoys physical exercise and being outdoors, dancing, horse riding, cooking and spending time with the people she loves.

Her biggest dream is to enjoy a life-long career in the performing arts, singing and acting her way on to the biggest stages in the world.
