Moseley Park murderer gets life imprisonment

Nkululeko Mofokeng was sentenced to five years for house breaking, 15 years for robbery and life imprisonment for murder.

THE Durban High Court sentenced Nkululeko Mofokeng (23) to life imprisonment on Friday, 22 September for the murder of Moseley Park resident, Erich Dorr.

Two robbers brutally murdered Dorr, who lived alone, on Thursday, 18 June, 2015. Only one robber was arrested.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, said two cellphones were stolen by the two robbers before they fled the scene on foot.

“A swift response by the members of the Durban Dog Unit led to the arrest of one of the men on the day of the murder.

“Mofokeng was not granted bail and he appeared in court a number of times before he was sentenced to five years for housebreaking, 15 years for robbery and life imprisonment for murder,” said Manqele.

Tony Wardle from the Pine Ridge Neighbourhood Watch said Dorr was born in 20 September 1920 and was married to the late Marie Katherina Elisabeth.

“Dorr, who was an engineer, keen photographer, bibliophile and aircraft enthusiast, lived alone for many years and did not have any friends. After his wife died, he lived for his cats.

“When his house burnt down in 2014, the neighbourhood watch members rallied around to assist him and he received so much love from the community and that touched him. He became a different man. We applaud the court’s decision of sentencing his murderer to life imprisonment,” said Wardle.
