Running is a way of life for KZN Athletics president

Sello Mokoena hopes to finish in the top 20 per cent in the Durban 10k and firmly believes this will be the fastest 10km route he has ever experienced.

COWIES Hill resident and president of KZN Athletics, Sello Mokoena, said being a runner is what keeps him going.

Sello is excited to compete in the inaugural FNB Durban 10K City SurfRun on Sunday, 8 October at 8am. The race starts at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and finishes at the beach front precinct.

The 52-year-old is a proud middle-distance runner, with a personal best of 30 minutes 12 seconds in a 10km.

“In athletics, the distance chooses an athlete and not the other way around. I have never been good in marathons and long distances, but short road racing, middle distance track and field as well as cross country, have been my speciality,” he said.

As part of his daily running programme, he goes for long runs each morning from Monday to Friday. He then does speed sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings.

He hopes to finish in the top 20 per cent in the Durban 10k and firmly believes this will be the fastest 10km route he has ever experienced.

Entries close on Tuesday, 3 October.
