Looking into the heart of the dancer

Local resident Kevin Ellis has been crowned Champion of the World in line dancing.

KEVIN Ellis is Champion of the World in the line dance advanced men’s singles category.

He attained 27 firsts from the judging panel and performed three genres of dance: the waltz, East Coast Swing and show dance.

To get to the top, he has heel-ball-changed and pivoted each step with aplomb and has won the KZN Championships, the Johannesburg and Cape Town Championships, the SA Championships, and European Championships this year.

Kevin has been dancing for 50 years. In fact his first tentative steps were soon transformed into a soft shoe shuffle and a twirl as he took to dancing like the proverbial moth whirling to a flame.

He hails from Zimbabwe where he was an acclaimed 10-dance ballroom champion. He is also SA’s undefeated free-style singles, doubles and triples champ.

He gyrated his way into the well known Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris, formed part of the entertainment team on 27 cruise ships including the Oceanos where he was lauded a hero and given a bravery award for saving 690 passengers, 26 years ago.

Kevin is also a fashionista and designer when the muse strikes. He is multi-talented and lives an exhausting but stimulating life where no day is the same.

He was choreographer for X-factor SA, teaches keep fit, modelling deportment, is a motivational speaker, produces shows and runs the marvellously eccentric shop at The Stables.

He also works as a stylist on movies, magazines, hair shows, and music DVDs.
