Pinetown CBD robber sentenced to 15 years

Police said this sentence will serve as a deterrent to other criminals.

PINETOWN police have applauded and welcomed the sentencing of Phumlani Damini (28) who was arrested in November last year for robbery.

Dlamini was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment (no option for parole) by the Pinetown Regional court recently.

W/O Muzi Maphumulo said the robbery took place at the corner of Crompton and Josiah Gumede roads.

“A motorist had just stopped at the traffic light when Dlamini threatened him using a knife and demanded his tablet.

“Dlamini fled with the tablet but was arrested immediately after the incident with the help of the community. He appeared in court several times before the matter was finalised,” said Maphumulo.

He added that street robberies have been a concern in the Pinetown CBD and most people avoid the area because of the crime.

“This conviction will send a good and clear message to criminals who are targeting and tormenting innocent people and robbing them of their belongings.

“The station also thanked the investigating officer, Cst L Mchunu from Pinetown detectives, for doing a thorough investigation,” said Maphumulo.
