Woman (22) sentenced for young mom’s murder and kidnapping

The accused strangled the 18-year-old woman to death and stole her baby.

TWENTY-two-year-old Samkelisiwe Zandile Shange from KwaNyuswa,  was sentenced by the Pietermaritzburg High Court to 25 years imprisonment for murder and kidnapping.

It is alleged that in July last year, an 18-year-old teen and her six month old baby went missing in KwaNyuswa and the matter was reported to the police.

“Family members of the deceased received information that Shange was involved in the disappearance of their daughter. The accused was taken to the police together with the baby and she led the police to the bushes where she had dumped the body of the deceased,” said Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele.

It is alleged the deceased was strangled to death by the accused before taking her baby.

Manqele said further information revealed that the accused had a miscarriage and she wanted to present the baby to her boyfriend as their child.

The accused made several appearances in court before she was convicted and sentenced.
