KZN disaster management teams on high alert

KZN MEC for Cogta Nomusa Dube-Ncube has urged residents to take precautions as the predicted extreme weather hits the province.

DISASTER Management teams in KwaZulu-Natal remain on high alert as the predicted extreme weather hits the province. Light snow fall is already falling over parts of the Drakensburg and other parts of the province.

KZN MEC for Cogta Nomusa Dube-Ncube has appealed to residents, particularly in areas prone to heavy snow falls and flooding, to heed the department’s advice as well as the regular updates from the South African Weather Services when planning all trips that require driving or any other outdoor activities.

KZN Cogta has assured residents that its disaster management teams are on standby to assist with every reported incident relating to the cold and rainy weather in the province.

“We  also specifically appeal to parents to ensure that all school-going children avoid precarious routes that are prone to flash flooding and we urge all schools to plan all outdoor activities carefully and in line with the latest updates from the South African Weather Services,” said Dube-Ncube.

She also warned snow watchers to stay clear of affected areas as they risk to be trapped in these areas when they become impassable.

“We also warn communities to be careful not to cause accidents with fires as they try to warm themselves up as the entire province is recording low temperatures,” added Dube-Ncube.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
