Cold spell set for Durban

Strong cold winds are expected along the coast, with snowfall in the South Western region.

THE beginning of August offered a glimpse of summer with warm conditions in Durban, however, the weather folk have warned that temperatures are dropping.

South African Weather Services meteorologist, Julius Mahlangu, said strong cold winds are expected along the coast, with snowfall in the South Western region.

“As of today (Tuesday 15 August) we will be expecting cold weather across Durban and over the weekend with a possibility that it will continue next week,” he said.

eThekwini Municipality has warned that Reunion, Pipeline, Warners and uMgababa beaches have been temporarily closed following high sea levels predictions in the areas.

This decision was taken after careful discussion with the South African Weather Bureau and the KZN Sharks Board.

The closure entails the lifting of shark nets at these beaches.

The municipality will continue to monitor other beaches.

Should it become necessary to close other beaches, the public will be notified accordingly.
