New revamped room for trauma victims

The community got together to help renovate the Pinetown SAPS trauma room which was in dire need of a revamp.

THE sensitivity of cases that police sometimes deal with requires privacy and a victim-friendly room, that is the reason why a trauma room is vital in every police station.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, W/O Muzi Maphumulo, said they had the trauma room designed with the help of Thora Mansfied from Open Door and Careline Crisis Centre and has been functioning for years now.

“The aim of the trauma room is to provide emotional support to victims of crime and to instill hope but ours was in shambles and not victim friendly at all. With an aim to uplift it, Maphumulo sent out a plea to through social media which was heard by Justin Bosse and Adam Bowen of the Pinetown CPFs.

“They also shared the word and the community was eager to assist and today we are proud about our new revamp room. We thank everyone who made this possible,” said Maphumulo.

Bosse said there are many victims of trauma that even them as CPFs deal with and to help make this room warm and welcoming means that it will be used often.

“After we saw the message from Maphumulo, Adam and I asked residents to donate staff that could help such as toys, pillows, pillowcases and books. We would like to pass special thanks to Shave Paint and Bathroom Bizzare who assisted with fitting new tiles and painting this room. A big thank you also to neighbourhood watches, CPFs and residents for their overwhelming response,” said Bosse.

Maphumulo added that Sgt Bhekeni Khwela has been appointed to make sure that the room stays clean and it is not used by any members for their own needs.
