New president takes Cowies Hill Lions’ reins

A special award was given to two new members, Lee-Anne Mattheys and William Vincent.

MEMBERS of the Lions Club of Cowies Hill and guests celebrated the club’s 42nd annual presidential induction at the Lions Club House last Saturday.

Guests included District 410-c governor, Ken Toward, and his wife, DC Helen Toward, zone chairman, Andrew Palmer and his wife, Charlene.

Outgoing president, Bronwyn Paijmans, paid tribute to the work done by club members during the year. She highlighted some of the key projects that were undertaken including the upgrading of Grace Cottage at Ethelbert Children’s Home, hosting fun Bingo afternoons at Cheshire Homes and hosting the strawberry stall at the Browns School Fete.

Once more, the hosting of the Watering Station on Cowies Hill for the Comrades Marathon was successfully undertaken, for the 37th time, and the site left spotless before the public had packed up for the day.

Recognising the input from others to the Comrades Marathon Project, she thanked the National Sea Rescue Institute for managing the First Aid Station and thanked Cowies Hill resident Trudy Kastner for supplying water and electricity connections from her house again.

A special award was given to two new members, Lee-Anne Mattheys and William Vincent, to acknowledge the effort that they have made in so many club projects and fund-raising activities.

DG Ken Toward officially inducted Dee Love as club president for the 2017/18 fiscal year.

In her acceptance speech, Love, thanked the club for their faith in her and promised to support the ongoing projects undertaken by the club, and to promote membership growth and service.

The Lions Club of Cowies Hill meet at the Interpretative Centre at Paradise Valley Nature Reserve on the first Monday of each month, at 6.30pm.
