Red Cargo film star search comes to Durban

Many young actors and actresses, mostly from Durban, eagerly lined up for their big break into the film industry.

FILM producers from Sollywood; South Africa and Hollywood Thailand, held auditions for South African actors and actresses to star in a rhino poaching film, at the Bat Centre on Saturday, 16 July.

The film (Red Cargo) is about SA and Thailand rhino poaching syndicates who commit crimes to keep their business running, finally, they meet the full wrath of a South African hero who fights against them.

Senzo Zindela (executive producer) from Sollywood, a South Coast film production company, partnered with Thailand filmmakers, Sumret Muangput, Nonthakorn Thaweesuk and Wason Homsangpradit, for the search.

“Today we are looking for one particular person who is going to play the leading role in the film, but there will be more auditions later on as we do the casting,” said Zindela.

Many young actors and actresses, mostly from Durban, eagerly lined up for their big break into the film industry. Lungani Myeni from Umlazi said getting the role would make his acting dream come true since he has been trying for more than two years to get into the industry.

Thokozani Khozo CEO of Untitled SS productions, a new company that will be working with Sollywood, said this will open many opportunities for students and upcoming filmmakers.

“Our company is only a few months old and Senzo has taken us in and involved us in an international project, that is a big step forward,” said Khoza.

Nyaniso Dzedze, known for his debut role on e.TV drama, Ashes to Ashes, is among the top three selected. The search for the cast continues.
