Zandie creates edible art at Hirsch’s

The weekly baking demos are an absolute must - you never know what new cooking tricks you may learn.

LOCAL baker, Zandie Gwacela, wowed guests at Hirsch’s in Hillcrest during one of her cooking demos.

Zandie, owner of Zandie’s Confectionary and Catering Solutions, recently left corporate life to pursue her long-time dream of catering.

“It has always been her dream to share her baking and confectionery skills with other women such as herself,” said Jonathan Brauteseth, the public relations officer at the Hirsch’s Hillcrest branch.

Zandie used to work from home in Pinetown but did not have the tools to provide training for other women. She approached Margaret Hirsch, who helped facilitate Zandie’s baking workshops, which are now hosted at the Hillcrest store each week.

“The aim is to teach like-minded women how to bake and make delicious dishes,” said Joanthan.

This week, Zandie trained two women to bake a delicious chocolate cake and cupcakes and showed them a few decorating tricks.
