Hijacked couple’s son thanks Good Samaritans
The Pilling family is now trying to locate the people or person who found Sheila in KwaDabeka and notified authorities.
AN elderly Hillcrest couple who were hijacked in New Germany last Thursday were released from hospital on Tuesday, 25 July and are recovering well at home.
Sheila and John Pilling were visiting friends for lunch when they were hijacked in Sander Road, New Germany.
They were just leaving when two men approached them and shot John in the chin and fled with his wife, Sheila who is partially paralysed and in a wheelchair.

After their horrific ordeal the two were reunited in hospital just a few hours after the incident.
Their son, Adrian Pilling who lives in Johannesburg, received a disturbing message that his father has been shot by hijackers and his mom had been abducted.
“I rushed to the airport, but by the grace of God and assistance from many people who did not even know my parents, my mom was found on the side of the road in KwaDabeka and was cared for by strangers,” said Adrian.
He said his father had an operation on Saturday and is recovering well.
“My mom was bruised and received medical treatment, but she is still very shattered about this traumatic experience.”
“It is so tragic that incidents like this happen in our country but the support that we received was overwhelming. I am truly grateful to everyone, the community, police, security companies, neighbourhood watches, CPFs and ambulance services,” said Adrian.
The Pilling family is now trying to locate the people or person who found Sheila in KwaDabeka and notified authorities.
“We need to thank them in person, my mom would have been far worse off if she was not rescued by kind people,” he said.
