Kloof’s crowning beauty to represent SA

Kloof Senior Primary School's SPAR Star of the Month - June 2017.

KLOOF Senior Primary School’s SPAR Star of the Month is the beautiful go-getter, Yolanda Mthiyane.

The 10-year-old has been modelling for six years. It was on the very same day she told her mom she would like to model that she was discovered while strutting her stuff up and down the aisles of a store. Yolanda competed in her first pageant in Grade 2 at Watercrest Mall and has not once regretted her decision as she thrives on stage. “When I won Miss Upper Highway I was really happy and super confident and made me want to help even more charities as well,” she said.

Her first foray into outreach has remained close to her heart where she spent many hours playing with the children at the Sibusiso Orphanage in KwaNyuswa. “I enjoyed helping with the babies, they’re just so cute,” said Yolanda.

Since claiming her first win, she has since taken the titles for Little Miss KZN, Miss Pageant SA, Mr and Miss World, Miss Mzansi and Miss Pre-teen South Africa.

Her next big competition is Mr and Mrs Planet in Europe and, after rigorous amounts of fund-raising, is excited to travel overseas.

“There have been so many people that have come forward to help me to reach my goals and attain my dream. A big thank you to Inanda FM, KwaDukuza Municipality, Illembe Municipality, Robby, Ann Malinga and Ikhweza FM and everyone who has supported me so far,” said a humbled Yolanda. “I am so excited! I have never been overseas before!”

While she would love to win, she would really just like to enjoy herself in the moments on stage and then meet new people. She is most looking forward to buying one or two different items with a foreign currency, learn a few new phrases in a foreign language and taste the different foods.

Now in Grade 5, the avid performer said she really enjoys natural science as doing experiments and seeing the result fascinates her.

“I really love dancing. It is my heart and soul. I taught myself how to dance and have also started to learn to hip-hop. I get the moves from when I did dancing back in Grade 1 and found some dance moves by watching the videos on YouTube. The songs are super upbeat and I am a very energetic person,” she said.

In her spare time she works alongside CHOC by hosting food collections but her main goal is to work with up to six charities. “This is something I got from my mom. She cares so much about the well being of others and she taught me to share and care for others as well,” said Yolanda.
