Father of missing boy creates awareness
During the programme, KwaDabeka SAPS communications officer, Capt Mazwi Mbatha and social worker, Nomusa Mkhize, warned children about walking alone in the streets.
AS part of the Ndumiso’s Search Charity Campaign, KwaDabeka dad, Mdu Mbutho, who has been searching for his deaf son for the past three years, hosted a Missing Child Awareness Day.
Mdu hosted the programme together with CopTrust, an organisation that provides an opportunity for businesses and ordinary South Africans to make a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of others.
“We made ID kits for about 60 children to make it easy for the parents to describe them to the police just in case they go missing.”
He said as a parent who has been through this ordeal, he knows how difficult it is to open a case for a missing child.
“There are so many things that go through one’s mind and you can not think clearly.

At the police station you have to fill lots of forms and they will ask you questions about your child that you never take note of like the colour of the eyes, weight and height,” said Mdu.
During the programme, KwaDabeka SAPS communications officer, Capt Mazwi Mbatha and social worker, Nomusa Mkhize, warned the children about walking alone in the streets.
“Children should always walk in groups and never play outside till late. Children should know that they have rights but they also have responsibilities,” said Mkhize.
Capt Mbatha showed parents and children how to fill in a missing report form and appealed for children to report suspicious behaviours.
He also urged people to work together with the police to decrease crime.
Mdu added that he hopes to do more of these campaigns in different areas.
