Multiple vehicle pile-up follows pedestrian’s death on N3

Four cars and a truck were involved in the vehicle pile-up which affected both bounds of the busy freeway.

ONE person was killed after being hit by a bus on the N3 near Paradise Valley last night, causing a multiple vehicle pile-up on both sides of the busy freeway. Another person was moderately injured.

Paramedics were called to the scene which affected both bounds of the freeway.

According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care Paramedics, a bus hit a pedestrian on the Durban bound carriageway.

“The pedestrian died on scene before paramedics had arrived.”

Jamieson said two vehicles who were avoiding the bus scene then collided before one rolled through the median coming to rest on the Pinetown bound carriageway.

“Two cars and a truck then collided while trying to avoid this vehicle. Paramedics found that the driver of the overturned vehicle had sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised on scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital,” said Jamieson.

At this stage, the exact cause of the collision is unknown and SAPS will be investigating.
