Women in blue help children

Pinetown SAPS Women's Network bought warm clothes for underprivileged children.

PINETOWN SAPS Women’s Network bought warm clothes, uniforms and stationery for two children who were adopted by the eThekwini Inner and Outer West Cluster.

The children were adopted last year after an instruction from the KZN head office that each cluster should adopt two children they would care for until they complete their studies.

One of the children was adopted by Hillcrest SAPS and the other by Mpumalanga SAPS.

Cst Andile Mbhele from Hillcrest SAPS found a nine year old boy who did not attend school. She managed to find him a home and a school where he does not pay school fees.

Col Nancy Makhanya said the other child was identified during Mandela Day when police went to donate food and saw the conditions the family was living in.

“Any police officer from the eight stations under the eThekwini Inner and Outer West Cluster can contribute to looking after and providing these children with their necessities.

“As the Pinetown Women’s Network, we decided that because it is winter, we should buy them warm clothes,” added Makhanya.

The officers attending wore school uniforms to commemorate Youth Day.

eThekwini Inner and Outer West Cluster Commander, Major General James Sayer, said he appreciated the work of the women’s network

“I know you do not receive a huge salary but you always lend a helping hand and this is not the first time you impressed me with your good heartwarming work.

“This might seem small but one day you will see the fruits of your wonderful work in these children. If the women’s network can do such amazing work for the community, imagine what the whole cluster could do,” said Sayer.
