Explosion sparks power outage in parts of Pinetown

According to a resident, this is the fourth electric cable the construction workers have hit in the last two days.

RESIDENTS in Bamboo Lane, Willow and Leeds Crescent in Pinetown have been left without electricity following a explosion earlier today [Wednesday, 21 June].

A construction worker was digging along the water pipe system, when suddenly his pick hit an electric cable that caused an explosion, leaving parts of the area without electricity.

Peter Baylis, a resident who has been living in the area for more than 30 years, said he warned the construction workers about where they should or shouldn’t dig. However, they did not take his advice and have now stuck the electric cable.

“This is the fourth electric cable the construction workers have hit in the last two days,” said Baylis.

He described the bang as a “thunderclap” and said the explosion had completely burnt off the top of the pick.
