Make your voice heard in Westville musical

Auditions are open to Highway residents of all ages and while it is a musical, not all of the characters need to sing.

AUDITION for the Westville Theatre Club’s latest and exciting production, unPlugged The Musical, is on Sunday, 18 June from noon and again on Monday, 19 June from 6pm.

UnPlugged is inspired by the music of The Bee Gees, Simon and Garfunkel, and Crosby, Stills and Nash and the songs from these artists will feature throughout the play.

The musical has a touch of comedy as well with a few real-life situations and of course, ‘love’ is included.

Producer and scriptwriter, Daniel Oosthuizen, is no stranger to theatre and has been actively involved with the Franklin Players based in Roosevelt, Johannesburg since 2007 and more recently, the Westville Theatre Club’s One Act Play Festival.

“For our casting we need a variety of characters and personality types. Although we primarily require singers, there is room for actors who feel like they would like to feature in non-singing roles, but a little bit of singing wouldn’t hurt,” said Daniel.

“There will be minimal choreography, although there will be numbers that will focus and feature only on the stronger dancers.”

Those interested in auditioning should prepare any song of their choice and bring their own backtracks or musical accompaniment. If assistance with backtracks is needed, contact Daniel.

Auditions are open to all ages as there are a variety of parts for both actors and singers.

“Everybody is invited to participate in this fun-filled experience – not only does it create an opportunity for you to be on stage and shine, but the whole project inspires new social activities and new friendship.”

Show dates are on 25 to 27 August and 31 August to 2 September. Rehearsals will take place throughout June, July and August and will be on Sundays in the afternoon and evenings with the occasional week rehearsal nights.
