THE current supply disruption of orange recycling bags has slowed down the Flame Lily Park recycling project which is part of the fund-raising strategies for the Twilight Shellhole Moth situated in the facility.
Derek Lloyd, one of the residents of Flame Lily said using the orange bags is part of their recycling project and he has had to reuse the bags until they tear.
Orange bag delivery and distribution has been disrupted due to a shortage of bags caused by issues with the current supplier and is being addressed according to Durban Solid Waste (DSW) management.

Moth’s adjutant, Collin Peacock, said the recycling project earns more than R700 a month and contributes to the cost of frail care residents.
Lloyd appeals to the 75 per cent of households not affected by the interruption to the supply of orange recycling bags to donate some of their bags they don’t use.
“People can drop off the bags at the gate or contact me on 031 463 1054 and I will pick them up if its around the Malvern area,” said Lloyd.
The municipality has encouraged residents who don’t receive the bags and those affected by the interruption to use clear plastic bags provided by the City to recycle in the interim.
They are asked to place plastic, cardboard and paper in one clear bag and glass and cans in a separate clear bag.

Residents will have to contact DSW and let them know if they would like to receive the clear bags.
eThekwini Municipality’s head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa said, “Residents must supply their addresses and will be notified when the clear bags will be delivered to them.”
But Lloyd said he is battling to get the clear bags supplied.
