Stone the crows, what a difference Chandré makes

CROW aims to always provide life-saving care and treatment for wildlife in need.

MOSELY Park resident and animal lover, Chandré de Bruyn recently joined the CROW marketing and communications team and is already advocating for wildlife with great enthusiasm and verve.

The Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife is one of South Africa’s longest serving wildlife rehabilitation centres based in Durban that assists wild animals throughout the province.

Every year, CROW rescues, rehabilitates and releases more than 4 000 orphaned, injured and displaced wild animals.

Chandré attended Werda Skool and has lived in the Queensburgh area for most of her life and said that she joined the organisation because she has a passion for animals.

Even though Chandré doesn’t get to interact directly with the animals on a daily basis, she still feels like she is making a difference.

“I enjoy going on tours of the facility with the kids and the elderly, I feel like in this way, I’m doing something to help,” she said.

CROW’s vision is to be an independent, pioneering force in the rehabilitation and conservation of orphaned and injured wildlife, while promoting the preservation of their natural habitat and Chandré said everyone can make a difference and contribute to preservation of wildlife.

“A simple thing like not speeding could save a baby animal’s life as many baby deers die on the roads after being knocked down by cars,” she said.

“For example, in March, a speeding motorist killed a female red duiker in the quiet streets of Yellowwood Park. The duiker was pregnant and due to give birth a few days before the accident.

The CROW team tried everything they could to save the mother and baby but unfortunately bothdied as a result of their severe injuries.
