Police unit throws force behind Child Protection Week

During the campaign learners were also taught what to do when they are being abused.

TO commemorate Child Protection Week (29 May to 5 June), the Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit did a crime awareness campaign at Udumo Primary School in Clermont.

The event was attended by the police from all the stations under the Inner and Outer West cluster.

Learners were also taught what to do when they are being abused.

The Pinetown FCS also donated 60 uniforms to the school.

The highlight of the day was the police band who had learners singing and dancing along with the them.

Principal of the school, Cabangani Mkhize, said they were happy that police chose their school for Child Protection Week awareness.

“We are also honoured with the uniform donation. If children are wearing a correct uniform, it brings back their self esteem and it becomes easy for the teachers to teach those children.

“We received 60 uniforms and it will make a difference as some of our learners live with their grannies and most of the parents are unemployed,” said Mkhize.
