Eco warriors bag river waste

"There is lot of dumping in the rivers and our aim is to keep them clean and teach people about taking care of the rivers."

ABOUT 200 bags filled with litter were collected at a river clean-up in Indunduma, Clermont.

The clean-up was organised by the eThekwini Conservancies Forum on Saturday and was part of the Take Back Our Rivers initiative which aims to improve the health of the eThekwini rivers.

Aller River Project liaison officer, Thozeka Ntlukwane, said they invited residents to assist the clean-up.

“There is lot of dumping in the rivers and our aim is to keep them clean and teach people about taking care of the rivers,” she said.

During the clean-up, nappies mattresses, plastics and all kinds of debris was found in the river.

Ntlukwane thanked the DSW department for helping them dispose of the bags and Parks and Recreation Department for collecting the garden refuse.

“We also thank everyone who took part in this project and New Germany CPF chairman, Tony da Canha, who assisted in transporting people to place where we were working,” she said.
