Learn to help others through Open Door

There are only a few spots available for the lay counselling course which starts on Saturday, 27 May.

THERE are still a few spots available for the Open Door Crisis Care Centre’s eight-week lay counselling course that starts on Saturday, 27 May.

“This course is a must for lay counsellors, neighbourhood watch volunteers, educators and community workers who are involved with men, women and children facing challenges in the homes, schools, or anyone wishing to improve their own life skills in dealing with conflict, work and social related problems,” said Thora Mansfield, director of the non-profit organisation.

The course offers psychology students hands-on training and is recommended by lecturers in the various universities and colleges.

It is aligned to SAQU standards. The course teaches participants basic counselling skills, how to deal with conflict, address social issues of rape, domestic violence, child abuse as well as training on the various Acts and Bills including the Sexual Offences Act, the Domestic Violence Bill, the Children’s Act as well as the Trafficking in Persons Act.

More than 10 000 men and women have undergone life-changing experiences through this course.
