KZN police swift response led to the recovery of two stolen cars.

TWO men who threatened a Cato Manor man at gunpoint and hijacked him yesterday were arrested in Westville shortly after the incident occurred.

According to KZN police spokesman, Lt/Col Thulani Zwane, the victim was confronted by two men who arrived in their own vehicle when he parked his car at his house in Cato Manor at about 6pm.

Zwane said the men threatened him at gunpoint and forced him out of his vehicle before fleeing with his car.

“Police were alerted and immediately began tracing the hijacked vehicle. Through their speedy efforts both vehicles, the hijacked vehicle and the suspect’s vehicle, were located in the Westville area.

“The vehicle used by the men was found to have been stolen from Cato Manor as well,” said Zwane.

KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended police for their quick reaction that led to the arrest of the two men and the recovery of the two cars.

“Such successes can be attributed to our targeted and informed deployment of operational resources in line with the back to basic approach.”

Langa urged residents to take extra precautions when entering or leaving their homes as it is a common target area for criminals to hijack vehicles.

“Always be on the lookout for people lurking at stop streets, robots or intersections under suspicious circumstances.

The men who were arrested will be profiled to establish if they are linked to any other hijackings in the province,” he said.
