KwaNyuswa children kept warm this winter

The Londiwe Jobela Sibisi Foundation distributed clothes to more than 50 children.

COLLECTING winter clothing and distributing it to vulnerable and destitute children is one of The Londiwe Jobela Sibisi Foundation’s goals.

The foundation is named after Londiwe Jobela Sibisi, a gifted and dynamic young woman who passed away on 17 April 2016 after she suffered an asthma attack.

She was doing her final year at Rhodes University and among other activities, was a mentor to high school students in Grahamstown.

Determined and inspired to honour Londiwe’s love of selfless giving and to continue her legacy, her parents Nosipho and Nathi Sibisi established the foundation to continue her passion to promote education, raise awareness about asthma and improve the lives of disadvantaged children and communities.

On Saturday, 22 April, the foundation held its Winter School Uniform Drive at Esibusisweni Orphanage in KwaNyuswa.

Londiwe’s mom, Nosipho Jobela-Sibisi, said for most children who are living in poverty, a warm winter school jersey is something they cannot afford.

“We distributed new and gently used clothes, school jerseys, school blazers, hats, blankets, toys and other winter wear to more than 50 children. Each year, thousands of less fortunate children attend school in winter without basic warm clothes and these under-resourced children struggle to succeed academically,” explained Nosipho.

She added that they were grateful for the generosity and support of many people who donated and made this drive a success.
