Gurneys celebrate six decades of marriage

Peter and Shirley Gurney were married at St Michael's all Angels, Anglican Church on 6 May 1957.

DOONE Village residents, Peter and Shirley Gurney, will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday, 6 May.

The couple met and fell in love in Kitwe, Northen Rhodesia and after a whirlwind romance they had a six-month engagement before getting married on 6 May 1957 at St Michael’s all Angels, Anglican Church.

They moved to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe soon after Independence where they spent many happy years.

 

After six decades together, the Gurney’s love still shines bright.

 

In 1982, they moved to Johannesburg where they opened a successful photographic studio in Sandton.

Seven years ago, they moved to Doone Village in Pinetown where they have settled well and are in regular contact with their children and grandchildren.

Their family will travel long distances to celebrate this special day with them.
