Computer lands on Amanda’s lap

The generously donated laptop will help local student, Amanda Manqele attain a brighter future.

THE 31 Club’s recent donation of a laptop to student Amanda Manqele will go a long way in helping her secure a brighter future.

The club’s chairman, Jo Behr, said it was an emotional morning for both her team and for Amanda.

“She is a very deserving student who is studying to become a teacher with the help of the Hillcrest Advice Bureau – an organisation that we are proud to be associated with. Thank you to Tanya Harvey and Connie Johnson for your fantastic work,” she said.

She said special thanks needs to be given to Reis Pinhal and Associates for giving them a fantastic deal on the laptop and for donating a laptop bag.

The Hillcrest Advice Bureau and Bursary Fund’s chairman, Tanya Harvey, initially asked for the Highway community to help Amanda as a laptop has become a basic requirement for university students.

“There is this perception of underprivileged children with expensive equipment. The truth is that many of them would rather buy data and pay off these items of equipment than purchase food,” she said.

Despite a trying past, Amanda has continued to persevere and make the most of what life has to offer and is excited to make a positive difference in other people’s lives once she graduates.
