Donated beds add comfort to White House

Life Westville Hospital donated 36 manual beds to the non-profit organisation, The White House Community Care Centre.

THE growing need for the services offered by the White House Community Care Centre in the Valley of 1 000 Hills has pushed it to embark on a game-changing expansion project.

The Life Westville Hospital heard its plea for help and offered 36 of its high/low medical beds which they no longer use.

The local hospital has completely done away with manual beds and recently upgraded its facilities with electronic beds, allowing the donation of the much-needed units.

“If we had to buy these beds, it would cost us nearly R13 000 per bed. There is just no way that we, as a non-profit organisation, could not afford it,” said Adele Walters of the White House Community Care Centre.

“This donation is an answered prayer. Thank you.”

The centre currently cares for 70 residents who are either abandoned, disabled, mentally challenged or have cerebral palsy.

It has already started the construction of its new building, which will house a further 50 residents. This was after an anonymous donation of R48 500 was made earlier this year.

“We are the only facility of this kind in KwaZulu-Natal so we get calls daily to take more residents. We are even getting requests from Gauteng,” said Adele.
