Driving schools have been restricted, not banned

THE story published in the Highway Mail about driving schools agreeing not take new students onto the roads during peak hours in Pinetown and New Germany has caused problems for local driving schools due to its misleading headline, inadvertently changed in the production process to, “Learner drivers banned from peak traffic”.

Resident and driving school owner, Lisa van Zyl, reiterates that the they have not been banned, but restricted.
This was discussed at a meeting that was held by some of the residents and driving schools after residents especially in Tracey Watts, Padfield, Manors and Glenuige Roads complained about the heavy traffic and delays that are caused by the driving school cars and trucks especially during peak hours.
Van Zyl said at the meeting, the agreement was that the driving schools will not teach new drivers during the peak hours, 6.30am to 8.30am and between 4pm to 5.30pm.

During the meeting, a WhatsApp group was created for residents to report their complaints if they see any driving school or instructor breaking a law.
