City of eThekwini offers free medical circumcision

The campaign focuses on providing free medical male circumcision procedures for males over the age of 12 years.

THE eThekwini Municipality’s health unit, in partnership with various organisations, has started a campaign to do free medical male circumcision procedures for men over the age of 12 years during the school holidays.

Circumcision is a safe and hygienic way of reducing the risks of sexually transmitted infections and results in about a 60 per cent reduction in the risk of HIV transmission and other life threatening diseases such as cervical cancer in women.

When coming for the procedure, patients must bring their South African identity document or birth certificate.

Parents bringing their children are also required to bring a form of identification.

An affidavit is required if the surname of the minor does not correspond with that of the guardian or parent.

Interested parties must visit their nearest clinic for booking prior to the date of the procedure.
