Lucky learners benefit from Easter project

Nearly 200 children received brand new school shoes from the Robin hood Easter project.

THE Robin Hood Foundation started the Easter school holidays with a bang for nearly 200 children in the KwaNgcolosi area who were invited to attend their Lucky Feet Easter Project on Monday, 3 April.

When Kim Griffith Jones, co-ordinator of The Robin Hood Foundation was asked, why “Lucky Feet” she said, “It was a fun event our chairlady, Cindy Norcott, thought of when we were doing our stocktake in January.

“These school shoes were in specific sizes ranging from tiny size 7 to adult size 10 – some left over from our Choose Your Shoes campaign last year and the rest were donated by local company AAAS. With the help of the staff at Sethani Community Centre, nearly 200 lucky children, whose feet matched the sizing, were invited to share the morning with our volunteer team,” said Kim.

After starting the morning with a fast-paced Easter Egg hunt – thanks to the incredible scholars at Crawford College who donated over 1 000 Easter eggs and followed by music, ice-lollies, hotdogs and party packets, the volunteers fitted the children with their very own pair of brand new school shoes for the start of the their second term at school.

“Our thanks goes out to all who contributed towards making this such a special day for these children and to an incredible team of volunteers for the time and love they showed the children,” added Kim.
