UPDATE: Man lucky to be alive after being thrown off Paradise Valley bridge

Paramedics were responding to an accident on the N3 Pinetown when they were asked to find the man who was reportedly thrown off the Paradise Valley bridge.

THE man who was reportedly thrown off the Paradise Valley bridge was rescued by Rescue Care paramedics and SAPS Search and Rescue.

The 33-year-old man was found alive in the dense bush by the police and paramedics after their 25-minute walk to reach him.

According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care Paramedics, paramedics responded to reports of an accident on the N3 Pinetown bound just before the M13 on the Paradise Valley bridge just after 8am today.

Paramedics found that two vehicles had collided and there were no injuries, however, while attending to the accident, they were approached by people who were standing on the Paradise Valley bridge, who asked for assistance.

“A man was allegedly thrown over the bridge last night due to circumstances surrounding an altercation and was unable to walk,” Jamieson said.

Rescue Care paramedics, Advanced Life support paramedics and the nature conservation staff immediately began a search for the injured person.

“The man was found, treated and stabilised before the necessary rescue equipment was set up to get the patient out of the bush, up onto the N3 and into an awaiting ambulance.”

Jamieson added that the man was very lucky to be alive as despite the fall, he only suffered moderate injuries and has been transported to a nearby hospital.

SAPS and all the necessary authorities were present and will be investigating the matter.
