Malvern muso speaks to the heart with new single

Her first feature was on Vuzu's The Hustle contestant, Erick Rush's mix tape, with tracks Drank and Dro as well as Here We Are Again.

STYLISH, sassy and spiritual Malvern singing sensation, Yashna Lutchman is a force to be reckoned with.

With a striking lyrical talent and soulful voice, she is on her way to the top.

Meeting her at her favourite hangout spot in the Queensburgh, Wimpy, brought out the child in her as she sipped on a chocolate milkshake reiterating how safe she feels in her neighbourhood, where she has lived for more than a decade.

“I love this place, the petrol attendants at the garage always greet me with a smile, its nice to be surrounded by happy people,” she said.

Yashna, a passionate and soulful singer-songwriter, discovered her vocal talent at the tender age of 10.

At 23 she recorded her first single, Lights Out, and has recently completed her second single Too Good.

This young artist is a true reflection of talent and intelligence, having completed a BA Degree in Social Science and achieving an Honours Degree in Industrial Psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

As a devout Christian, she enjoys Gospel music, and has performed at many churches including the DCC Thunderdome, and Revival Ministries where she clenched the title as the winner of the 2016 Gospel Sing-Off.

Yashna’s deep sense of commitment to her community was revealed when she performed at the CANSA Relay fund-raiser alongside her former schoolmates, Abigail Beard, Amy Madolo and Shekinah Donnell.

“In my first year at UKZN PMB, I was cast as the lead, Ali Rose, in the popular musical Burlesque, for a presentation by the Honours Graduates, with Jessica Nkosi and Petunia (from Petunia and the Mob) being among the dancers of that performance,” she said.

Her first feature was on Vuzu’s The Hustle contestant, Erick Rush’s mix tape, with tracks Drank and Dro as well as Here We Are Again.

Another display of her budding talent was when her singing led models down the runway at Jaqui Emmanuel’s 2014 Fashion Show, and at the 2016 Women of Africa’s Business Empowerment Event, held at Coastlands Hotel.

“My mother and sister are very supportive, they are my number one fans and my mom has been to all my shows,” she said.

Yashna envisions a future where she will be recognised for her God-given talent as a world-renowned, accomplished singer and songwriter.
