VIDEO: Police and community search for five armed trespassers in Cowies Hill

The alleged robbers evaded arrest, after they split up and fled the scene.

CCTV footage of five armed men running through a property in Cowies Hill led to a coordinated search with SAPS Westville, K9 units from Metro and Durban South members of Flying Squad, as well as the neighbourhood watches for the culprits around 4.50am today.

Blue Security media and community liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said everyone maintained positions allowing for the SAPS units to work in each section systematically. Unfortunately, the alleged robbers had split up by then, making capture difficult.

Mathios added that in an unrelated incident to the five trespassers, a man in his 30s was stopped in Sanderson Road in Pinetown. He was carrying items of interest namely four different pairs of shoes, an iron for clothing, yoghurt, socket set, belts and miscellaneous tools.

“He also had a machete which he tried to attack me with. As I drew my weapon in self defense, he threw it at me and turned and ran into the bush,” said Mathios.

Unfortunately there have been no arrests in both incidents.
