UPDATE: Bayhead blaze rages on

There are 41 fire vehicles on site and 125 fire personnel on duty.

THE Bayhead fire raged straight through the night. Despite the best efforts of the firefighters and last night’s downpour is proving tough to extinguish.

Last night Gift of the Givers dispatched a truck with refreshments and food for exhausted fire fighters.

 

 

The fire, which had engulfed a huge warehouse off South Coast Road containing wax panels started around 9am yesterday.

The billowing smoke was seen as far as the Durban CBD, uMhlanga, Durban North and King Shaka International Airport.

 

The fire is still active this morning.

 

Two people suffered fire related wounds according to Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamesion.

A firefighter was reportedly rushed to the hospital after he sustained burns to his hands while battling the massive fire.

And second person, a 35-year-old man who was reporedly working in the warehouse when the fire started, was also treated for burn wounds at the scene.

Exhausted fire teams are swopping shifts to battle the blaze through the night.
