Crompton Hospital vows to resolve wage dispute

Additional security has been deployed and SAPS are on the premises to maintain calm and safety.

ACCESS to The Life The Crompton Hospital has been restored following this morning’s protest action. A group of 40 to 50 protesters have been outside the hospital since early this morning due to wage disputes.

Workers  are reportedly demanding a 8.5 per cent increase while management have offered them a 6.2 per cent increase.

“The cost of living is quite high, and workers are having a difficult time,”  said NEHAWU union representative, Chris Ndlovu.

While the protesters are still active at the scene, staff at the hospital have confirmed that the strike was not impacting activities at the medical centre.

According to the hospital manager Barries Barnard, management had previously been in consultation with the union, and is dedicated to resolve the ongoing depute.

“Life Healthcare has taken measures to ensure the safety of our patients, employees, doctors and the public on our premises.”

“Additional security has been deployed and SAPS are on the premises to maintain calm and safety,” he said.

“We are doing everything in our power to retain stability at Life The Crompton Hospital, to minimise any disruption to the hospital’s operations and to ensure uninterrupted care to patients,” he added.
