Armed robbers target cash-in-transit vehicle in Botha’s Hill

Two men armed with rifles stole an undisclosed amount of cash from a cash-in-transit vehicle yesterday.

TWO armed robbers held up a cash-in-transit van in Botha’s Hill yesterday and fled with an undisclosed sum of cash.

According to reports, G4 cash in transit security guards were ambushed outside a business premises in Old Main Road in Botha’s Hill yesterday. Brian Jackson, Blue Security’s operation’s director, said the robbers were armed with rifles. One of the guards jumped from the vehicle with two cash boxes when he was accosted by one of the armed men.

The guard was disarmed and his weapon was stolen. A second robber grabbed the cash boxes and both of them fled to a nearby parked vehicle

“The robbers fled towards KwaNyuswa in a white VW Polo with the registration NU 45566,” said Jackson.

Both the Hillcrest SAPS and the SAPS organised crime unit attended the scene of the crime.

In a separate incident, a gang of five armed men held up a businessman and his staff in Main Road in Escombe at around 6.60pm last night. “One of the gang members hit one of the staff on the back of his head with the butt of a firearm. The robbers fled with cash, cellphones and laptops,” Jackson said.
