High school learners showcase art talents

The Visual Arts Exhibition will be on display at the Long Room at Kearsney College from 9 to 16 March.

THE wealth of creative talent among the province’s high school learners will go on display this week at the annual Visual Arts exhibition hosted by Kearsney College in Botha’s Hill.

Now in its fifth year, the exhibition is part of Culture@Kearsney and aims to reveal the remarkable creative talent among the youth in KwaZulu-Natal.

Diversity is encouraged and works in any medium and size can be submitted.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Wednesday, 8 March.

Thereafter it will be open daily to the public in the Long Room at Kearsney College from Thursday, 9 March until Thursday, 16 March. Opening times for the public will be 9am to 6pm weekdays and 9am to 4.30pm on weekends.

Works have already been submitted from learners at St Marys DSG, Thomas More College, Hillcrest High School, Westville Boys’ High School, Our Lady of Fatima, Northlands Girls’ High, Durban Girls’ High School, Russel High in Pietermaritzburg, Maritzburg Christian College and Kearsney College.

Culture@Kearsney is an annual programme of competitions and festivals which provides a platform for the youth in the province to showcase their talent and creativity.

This visual art exhibition will be followed at various intervals during the year by a number of other inter-schools events: a photographic competition, a dance and movement festival, a one-act play festival, a celebration of choirs from both primary and high schools and an evening of slam poetry which will test the skills of youthful linguists.
