Hillcrest taxi owner dies in hospital

Bafana Madlala was shot by unknown gunmen last Wednesday.

HILLCREST taxi owner, Bafana Madlala died in hospital on Saturday night after he was shot on Wednesday afternoon. Madlala (50) was returning from the taxi owners’ meeting in KwaNgcolosi when he was shot at KwaNqetho, Hillcrest.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, Madlala noticed a VW Polo following him.

“The driver of the Polo pretended to overtake Madlala who was driving a White Toyota Hilux. The passenger from the Polo started shooting at Madlala with an AK47,” said Manqele.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A case of attempted murder opened at the Hillcrest SAPS on Wednesday has been changed to murder.

Manqele said police are investigating. No one has been arrested yet and the motive is unknown at this stage.
