13 injured in Hillcrest taxi accident

Two people were trapped in the wreckage.

THIRTEEN people have been injured this morning in a collision between two taxis on the Kassier Road bridge, over the N3 highway, in Hillcrest. ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene and found both taxis in the left-hand lane of the road.

Several passengers from the taxis were found walking around on the scene.

“Paramedics found both a woman and man trapped in one of the taxis,” said ER24 Spokesperson, Russel Meiring.

Paramedics assessed the patients and all 13 had suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were reported on the scene.

Fire services used specialised rescue equipment to free both patients from the taxi. Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and transported them to various hospitals.

“It is believed one of the taxis failed to stop at the stop street, colliding into the side of the other vehicle,”Meiring said.
