Marine conservationists gather

With thousands of hours spent photographing fish, Dennis King has become a sought after fish identification expert.

THE South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) will host a Living Legends talk on Thursday, 2 March at the Len Baumann Conference Hall at uShaka Marine World from 4pm.

“This year we will pay tribute to six people who have, for many years, contributed to marine research, awareness and conservation. These people have largely dedicated their lives to the conservation of the marine environment through a range of different activities,” said SAAMBR’s conservation strategist, Judy Mann-Lang.

This month’s legend is Dennis King, who is best known for his passion for fish and his incredible skill as an underwater photographer.

He is the author and photographer of Reef Fishes and Corals, East Coast of Southern African and Reef Fishes and Nudibranchs and The Reef Guide; the last two were co-authored with Valda Fraser.

Dennis King is a structural engineer but has spent thousands of hours underwater photographing fish.

This has made him a sought after expert in the field of fish identification.

“He is always willing to share his incredible photos and in this way has contributed towards hundreds of different marine educational projects,” said Judy.

Tea and coffee will be available before the presentation. Parking is available. To RSVP e-mail reception@saambr.org.za or contact 031 328 8222.
