James jumps with winning joy

The winner for the Summer Verge comp is local gardener, James Radebe.

THE Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association congratulated local gardener, James Radebe, for his continued efforts in beautifying the area and named him the winner of the 2017 Summer Verge competition.

The organisation’s members, Barbara Fourie and Maggie Fleming, were busy scouting the area for the most distinguished verge.

“The committee was of the opinion that this time it would limit the award to complexes, churches and schools.

“The award is to publicise those in the area who make the effort to maintain the verge outside their property, which uplifts the area and makes the surrounds a pleasure to behold,” said Marge Mitchell, the chairman of the NPO.

James Radede has worked at, maintained and created an attractive verge for Highbury Place for the past 26 years. “He is a dedicated gardener and without his efforts, we were told, the gardens would not be as beautiful as they are,” said Marge.
