Shower pooches with tasty treats

World Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day is this Thursday and Highway residents are encouraged to hand out treats at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

EVERY dog has its day and for the pooches at the Kloof and Highway SPCA, their day is Thursday, 23 February or World Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day.

The 1000 Hills Chef School students have been baking up a storm making yummy dog biscuit treats for the dogs in the organisation’s care. To celebrate Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, the dog biscuits are available at reception for people to go along and spoil the dogs in its care by giving them the treats.

There is no charge for the biscuits, but donations are welcome.

The first dog biscuits were developed in the mid-19th century by American manufacturer, James Spratt. He came up with the idea after he visited Liverpool in England, where he observed stray dogs hungrily tucking into ship’s biscuits.

“Nobody seems to know the origins of Dog Biscuit Day, but every canine in the world knows the best way to celebrate it,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s PR and outreach officer, Lisa Mörck.

“Thank you to the 1000 Hills Chef School for their ongoing support and the regular visits to our SPCA to spoil the animals in our care.”
